Manchester 2002

Seychelles entered seven events- Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, Judo, Swimming and Weightlifting during the 17th edition of the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England (25 july- 4 August). As in 1990 in Auckland, Seychelles did not win any medal in 2002 in Manchester, England, and not even one Seychelles record was improved in track & field athletics, swimming, weightlifting and cycling.

Badminton

Juliette Ah-Wan: Competed in the Women’s Singles

Athletics

Eugene Ernesta (High Jump) cleared the bar at 2 metres in the group A qualifiers to finish eighth out of nine competitors.

Evans Marie (400M Race) clocked 49.01 seconds in the 400m race of the first round.

Boxing

Jean-Paul Mellie lost all his first round 60kg fight 10-26 to Canadian Antonin Hortie-Decarie.

Kitson Julie did not last long, losing by RSCH (Referee Stopped Contest Head) to Ugandan D. Mwanje in the second round of his 57kg bout.

Cycling

Hudson Mathieu clocked 1h10:51.59 in the 46.8km individual time-trial to be placed 22nd. He pulled out of the 187.2km road race.

Andy Rose clocked 1h18:14.35 in the 46.8km individual time-trial to be placed 32nd. He pulled out of the 187.2km road race.

Judo

Gerard Baker lost to Englishman T.Cousins in the first round of his 81kg fight and in the repechage round, he then lost to Faka’Osi.

Weightlifting

Frank Accouche finished seventh and last in the +105kg category with a total of 280kg- snatch 120kg and 160kg in the clean and jerk.

Janet Thelermont abandoned the women’s 69kg division competition with an injury after having failed her first snatch attempt at 85kg.

Steven Baccus finished sixth in the 94kg category with lifts of 140kg in the snatch and 180kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 320kg.

Swimming

Jean-Paul Adam clocked 59.14 seconds to finish seventh in the fourth heat of the 100m butterfly.

Bertrand Bristol clocked 1:00.25 to finish eighth in the fourth heat of the 100m butterfly.
