Seychelles was represented at the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing by nine athletes. They competed in six different sports; Athletics, Badminton, Canoeing, Sailing, Swimming and Weightlifting. A total of 15 officials were following the delegation. This was the Seychelles seventh time at the Games and five of the nine athletes (Ah-Wan, Cupidon, Lespoir, Julie and Leveau-Agricole) qualified for the games, a record for the country.
Athletics
Danny D’Souza: In the 100m run, D’Souza finished seventh out of eight runners in his heat. He finished 65th overall out of 80 sprinters.
Lindy Leveau-Agricole: In the javelin throw, she competed in group B of the qualifiers and registered her best distance of 56.32m in her first trial. She finished 29th overall out of 54 competitors in her first appearance at the Olympic.
Badminton
Juliette Ah-Wan & Georgie Cupidon: Paired in the mix doubles, Olympic rookies Ah-Wan and Cupidon lost their round-of-16 match on a 0-2 (8-21, 19-21) score after 21 minutes of play against Poland. They were Seychelles’ first badminton pair to qualify for the Olympic Games.
Canoeing
Tony Lespoir: Lespoir smashed his Seychelles K1 1,000m record with a time of 4:05.890 to be ranked eighth in as many competitors in the third and last heat. Although he improved his record, it was not enough for him to qualify for the semifinals of the K1 1,000m race and earned the 23rd place out of 26 competitors. In the K1 500m, he clocked 1:53.248 to finish seventh of as many paddlers in heat number two and was ranked 27th overall out of 29 contestants in four heats.
Sailing
Allan Julie: Julie finished 32nd overall in the 43-sailors Laser fleet with 203 points. He was ranked 33rd, 37th, 13th, 33rd, 27th, 16th, 21st, 30th and 30th in nine races. The 2008 games were his fourth time appearance.
Swimming
Dwayne Didon: At 13 years old, Didon was the youngest male competitor at the 29th Olympiad. Competing as an invitee, he clocked a personal best time of 28.98 seconds in the 50m freestyle to better his previous best of 29.03 seconds.
Shrone Austin: Austin was second in as many swimmers in the first of the six heats of the 400m freestyle event, clocking 4:35.86. She finished 41st and last in the event.
Weightlifting
Terrence Dixie: Competing as an invitee, weightlifter Terrence Dixie finished with an Olympic total of 255kg (115kg in snatch in his third attempt and 140kg in clean and jerk in his third attempt) to be ranked 16th and last in the 85kg division.
