Atlanta 1996

In 1996, SNOC sent 9 athletes to the Olympic Games in 5 sports; Athletics, Boxing, Sailing, Swimming and for the first time, Weightlifting. The team was accompanied by 7 officials. The Atlanta 1996 flag bearer was boxer Rival Cadeau (now Payet).

Athletics

Beryl Laramé: Participating in the Long Jump competition, Laramé registered a best jump of 3.88m in three attempts in the qualifying round to be ranked 38th overall.
Paul Nioze: Triple jumper Nioze registered a distance of 15.63 meters in the qualifiers to be ranked 39th out of 43 jumpers.

Boxing

Jerry Legras: Light welterweight Legras outpointed Colombian Daire Esalas 26-12 in his first round fight for an empathic win. Legras bowed out of the Olympics boxing tournament, losing 7-13 to Iranian Babak Moghimi in the second round.
Rival Cadeau (now Payet): Light middleweight Cadeau cleared his first hurdle by scoring a resounding 22-7 points over Brazilian Jorge Silva in the first round. Cadeau then defeated Ghanaian Asiakwei Aryee on points in the second round. In the quarterfinals, he lost bu RSCH (Referee Stopped Contest Head) after one minute and 24 seconds into the first round against Uzbekistan’s Karim Tulaganov.
Roland Raforme: Light heavyweight Raforme was knocked out by Canadian Troy Amos with 2 minutes 16 seconds gone in the third round.

Sailing

Allan Julie: He was placed 36th out of 56 participants with 269 points in the Open single-handed dinghy Laser class. His results were 28th in race 1, 36th in race 2, 22nd in race 3, did not finish race 4, 38th in race 5, 41st in race 7, 47th in race 7, 42nd in race 8, 34th in race 9, 35th in race 10 and 27th in race 11.
Jonathan Barbé: In the IMCO One-design Mistral Windsurfing competition, he was 44th out of 46 competitors. His results in the nine races were 43rd in race 1, 42nd in race 2, 41st in races 3 and 6, 36th in race 4, 40th in race 5, 36th in race 7, 42nd in race 8 and 44th in race 9 for a score or 278 points.

Swimming

Kenny Roberts: Swimming in lane five of heat number one of the 100m Freestyle preliminaries, Roberts clocked 52.89 seconds to be ranked second in his heat but failed to make the final. He was ranked 52nd overall out of 60 competitors. His time was also a Seychelles record, improving the previous best of 53.32 seconds.

Weightlifting

Steven Baccus: Competing in the 83- kg category, Baccus totaled 260kg – 115kg in the snatch and 145 in the clean and jerk – for the 18th position out of 20 competitors.
